Crane Company

Challenge

In Goodyear, Arizona, the Crane Company was faced with several environmental challenges regarding Uni-Dynamics soil contamination. In order to move forward on its own agenda, the Client had to gain the confidence of the City of Goodyear and convince the City that Crane was committed to cleaning up the project.

Strategy

Because of past history with this site, Landry-Creedon recognized that the City needed to feel confident about the intent and professionalism of the Client. To build that confidence, Landry-Creedon determined that it was essential to establish positive communications between the City and the Client on several levels. Once the City was engaged in the discussion, the Client would be able to make its case that it was committed to comply with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) investigation and cleanup.

Advocacy

Landry-Creedon coordinated the Client’s efforts to comply with the EPA’s investigation and clean up to ensure that compliance was timely and complete.

Using its depth of contacts, Landry-Creedon established working relationships with key City officials including the mayor, city manager and deputy city manager and worked closely with the Client’s environmental attorneys to facilitate negotiations with the City and Client. It effectively demonstrated its Client’s on-going commitment by conducting effective and successful working meetings that were attended by both Client and City representatives.

Landry-Creedon continued to communicate its Client’s commitment to cleanup throughout the life of the project.

Results

Landry-Creedon’s advocacy role resulted in the establishment of a positive working relationship between the City and the Client and mutual agreement on a cost effective environmental cleanup project. Landry-Creedon facilitated a more timely resolution of the financial settlement and saved both parties thousands of dollars in future attorney fees.
